A new member of the family.
What a pleasant surprise on a day off that I had to spend sick at home:

I got my iPod Nano delivered 3 days earlier than expected!
If anything, I am so stoked that it was delivered on my day off as opposed to a day when no one was home. I have heard horror stories of delivery personnel putting packages in the hands of neighbors. With the kind of relationship I have with my neighbors, that could turn out really badly. But of course, that’s for another entry.
Like with anything I get, I created video footage of me opening the box like the wanna-be geek I am. After thinking about it for a bit, I opted to just keep it to a written entry with a few snapshots. Here is my new Blue 8GB iPod Nano (4th generation):

This iPod marks the 5th iPod I have ever gotten. My first iPod was an 4GB Green iPod Mini which I purchased from the University of Hawaii at Manoa Bookstore back when I worked there and went to school at UH. My time at the bookstore was my first real exposure to Apple products, and purchasing that iPod was just the beginning. It’s a shame that I don’t have it anymore as I gave it to someone who is now my ex-boyfriend. I think it’s safe to say that I will never see it again.
Pictured above alongside my new Nano are the other iPods that I currently have. My first generation 1GB shuffle did get a lot of use when I first got it, but over time, I found it limiting keeping everything on one playlist without being able to navigate to the song I wanted. My 30GB iPod Video has become Bloo’s iPod as it will only really work when attached to a power supply; that battery is so done. It is nice to have every song I have accessible in my car even if navigating through it is a driving hazard. And of course, I have my 1st generation 8GB iPhone. I think I prefer to put movies on that thing as opposed to music because of its limited space and bigger screen for movies. I have to say, though, that it is nice to be able to listen to music without missing a phone call.
As for why I got a Nano, it really came down to the reason of “just to have it.” I definitely wanted an iPod with the Genius feature; though I have that with my iPhone with the 2.1 update, I wanted something a little more compact, and I wanted to spare my iPhone the task of being my “on the move” music player, as I want it to last me for quite some time.
I also thought the color was so pretty. As you can see from my current iPod collection, none of them have any color. Also, strangely enough, blue was not my first choice. I actually had wanted the yellow one. When I first saw it on Apple’s website when they were first announced, I was so excited to get it, which is surprising because I don’t normally like yellow things. When I saw them on the floor at the Apple Store, I was just crushed and disappointed to find it looked more gold than yellow. Ick. To be honest, I’m not quite over it. But oh well, the good ol’ standby that is blue worked pretty well. Don’t be surprised if I call this thing my BlooPod (though it the word looks like “blood.”)
And to conclude my reasons for getting the Nano, I should state the MAIN reason: I am making the commitment to be more physically active like I had been once upon a time, and will use the iPod Nano for when I exercise. I have not gone so far as getting a gym membership (I feel jinxed from the last time, all of which I will explain in a future entry), but I figure getting the Nano is the first step. For now, I will probably go walking around my neighborhood or Hunny’s neighborhood.
So it looks like I’ll be enjoying my iPod Nano after I get over this bug.

oh, and my ipod family looks a lot like yours.. one of every type haha. i don’t have them with me since i’m in japan, but i have an original 5gb ipod (still works!!), a 10gb 3rd gen ipod with 0% battery life (totally got screwed on the battery lawsuit thing), a 1st gen 4gb ipod nano, my 8gb non-3g iphone (which brandon now owns), and now i want to buy the same ipod nano as you.
Wow, lots of stuff for future entries! Neighbors, iPod mini, First gym membership. This should be interesting. So what happened to the last blog?
Whoa, lots of new blogs to evolve out of this one… iPod mini story, the Neighbors, even the first gym membership! I’m sure I have to catch up, but i’ll ask anyway… why the new layout?
Grr… it said there were no comments, so I retried and ended up posting two (now three).
