Great Expectations.

This week has been one of distress and disappointment.  Yes, it was that bad enough to actually start posting in here once again.

First of all, I was put in the unfortunate circumstance of having my flight to San Francisco canceled for my work related trip, and thus my entire week went bust.  If you’ve been keeping up with the news, then you wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the airline that left me grounded was American Airlines, which had canceled over 3,000 flights due to inspection issues with the FAA.

 Canceled!!!!!!!!!!!!

Despite my expectation for an exciting trip being blown to bits, I was more frustrated for the situation than for myself.  As I stood in the ticketing line at the airport hoping to catch another flight (for which I had a snowball’s chance in hell), I saw the frustration of those who stood in line with me, wondering how they were going to get home.  I was especially concerned for one girl who was wondering how she was going to eat since she had run out of money while she was visiting here.  This being my first taste of airport frustration (unlucky is the one that never has the money or time to travel anywhere post 9/11), I was quite frazzled seeing that passengers really have no recourse when things like this happen.  How crazy is it that we are at an airline’s mercy to run their scheduled flights or just to stay afloat?  I am in the fortunate position of hopefully being rescheduled to go back to California to the “Mothership” for training; I can only hope that all will go to plan or else my employer will pretty much consider forgetting the whole thing.

Adding insult to injury, after going home from the airport, I discovered that my car — barely even 9 months old — has trouble starting up.  It would crank without starting, and I would have to turn it again to start up.  My encyclopedia of knowledge that is my hunny told me that it might be the fuel pump.  Sure enough, when I did a Google search on the problem, I found many others with the Nissan Versa had the same problem and it was indeed the fuel pump that needed to be replaced.  I have to say that I expected better out of my new car, but I guess that’s what warranties are for.  My hope is that the dealer will tell me it’s a known problem and replace it with no fuss.  If not, I shall add another “monku” post to this blog.

I hope that my expectations for both my car and my trip are met the next time around…
